Albert Maysles was my mentor during the two-year shoot of my first feature length documentary GIRL WITH BLACK BALLOONS with Alan Berliner committed as consulting editor and producer. The film won the main award at DOCNYC in 2011. In giving the prize, the jury cited the film’s “honest simplicity and integrity,” calling it “an authentic revelation. Through her loving telling of Bettina’s story, van der Borch achieved the ultimate objective of documentary film; she gave us a window into a fascinating world that we’d never be able to enter if not for her camera.”

My latest feature-length documentary, co-directed with Tone Grøttjord-Glenne SISTERS ON TRACK, a Netflix Original, tells the inspirational coming of age story of sisters Tai, Rainn and Brooke Sheppard and the Jeuness Track Club in Brooklyn. The film is produced by Sant & Usant, executive producer Sam Pollard, story consultant Shola Lynch, music produced by Mark Batson with lyrics by Tarriona ‘Tank’ Ball. Original Score: THE DREAM

Currently, I am developing a feature length doc in Twin Falls Idaho about teens, mental health, community and cowboy boots.

Through my open collaborative curious approach to story-telling, I have worked with a variety of clients and fellows. My work has screened in Edinburgh, London, Paris, Amsterdam, Venice, Santo Domingo, New York, Dallas and Los Angeles.
